Fuel cell will change the vehicle market
From 2030 onwards, the fuel cell will be represented with a significant share in passenger cars, commercial vehicles and mobile machines. A turnover of 11 billion euros for fuel cell components in passenger cars alone is possible in Europe in 2040.

To achieve climate protection in the transport sector, politicians are relying almost exclusively on electromobility. But the CO2 avoidance costs of battery-powered electric vehicles are far too high.
The change in mobility can no longer be halted. The variety of requirements in the respective markets also requires a variety of available technologies. Hybridization and electrification are gaining momentum, as is the development of decarbonized synthetic fuels known as eFuels. Tomorrow's mobility is based on mechanical engineering - and requires open technology.
The most important finding of the study is: "For mechanical engineering, the mobility transformation process offers opportunities for additional value creation," explained VDMA President Carl Martin Welcker on the occasion of the publication of core results of the study.

Publications

The ZEV index measures the attractiveness of electric mobility in comparison to the combustion engine. For the year 2023, the index forecasts for Europe the same attractiveness of electric cars and cars with combustion engines.
